'A Great Day, Great Candidate, Great Result' was how Ryan Moses, the Ulsters’ Conservatives and Unionists Euro elections co-coordinator for West Tyrone described the re-election of their candidate Mr Jim Nicholson MEP. Speaking just after the news had broke on Monday that Mr Nicholson had succeeded for the fifth term Mr Moses said, “I don’t think that anyone is very surprised that Jim has succeeded again, he is an excellent candidate and the only Unionist who can really speak for the people of Northern Ireland in Europe. During this campaign we concentrated on what really matters to people, not on nonsensical rhetoric of “topping the poll”. It is clear that despite the hugely evident bias that had existed in the media in the run up to the election, where the Ulster Unionists had been totally discounted, like that at  Dromore, it takes more that petty media censorship to DUPe the electorate.”

The BIG lottery Funds’ Awards for All programme, which distributed over £1million in Northern Ireland last year is to open again for applications after being closed from last December. The news that the programme is to open again from 1st April has been welcomed by the local UUP spokesman on the issue, Mr Ryan Moses, who said, “Awards for All has been a vital source of income for many local groups and organisations. It closed on 15th December as the governance was being altered. It was the case that there was one single distributor for the funds if groups were successful, but I believe now that there will be four. The news that the programme opened again for applications yesterday (Wed 1st April) is very welcome and I would encourage any groups who ma require funding to apply. The Ulster Young Unionists have condemned the terrorists who murdered PSNI Officer Stephen Carroll.

In a statement, the Chairman of the Young Unionists, Michael Shilliday, said: “The people who have murdered an innocent police officer are evil and cruel. They are intent on destroying political stability and pulling Northern Ireland backwards against the will of the people. Constable Carroll, who was a husband and a father, was a man who was looking forward to the future peace here after bravely serving as a member of both the Royal Ulster Constabulary and the PSNI for a total of twenty three years. It was working in his role as a dedicated servant of the community that he was killed by a coward who hid in the shadows and who used a vulnerable person to lure the police into a trap.
